Movie Review - Sarainodu (Telugu)

Every Director gets into his own groove after a few 'successful' films and tries to beat around the same line out of fear of failure and this movie stands testimony to that. Boyapati Sreenu is no exception. This movie which has an item song with the word 'block buster' is definitely not one such. The entire length of 159.20 minutes requires patience to be able to bear the machismo of the hero, though Allu Arjun has excelled himself in this film as Gana. He has proved once again that he is one of the best of the current lot of heroes especially in fights and dances.
The story is about a young man,the son of Chief Secretary of a state, who reportedly returns from Army as he finds that there is a lot to do in the society than at the borders. Typically like in Boyapati's movies, the hero is shown as an extraordinary person with unbelievable strength and machoism fighting against a villain who is equally macho but bad. Aadhi played the role as Vairam Dhanush, the son of a chief minister Vairam Ranga Reddy( does it sound rhythmic with some real names in Andhra politics?). Though Srikanth played the role of paternal uncle of hero Gana, the relationship looked more artificial than natural. It appeared that the movie was not getting anywhere for the first 45 minutes with Catharine Tresa playing the role of a MLA Divya, with the dress sense of a metro city college girl. The scenes between the hero and MLA were too impractical to believe or enjoy, but of course, that is what movies are all about. The comedy track is the only relief in the film with sambar taking the centre stage in addition to Brahmanandam, the geologist. The court scenes were well played out. The background score is too loud and the music Thaman is so-so. The first half ends with a twist when the hero was about to take an important pledge to marry Divya, the MLA but there enters Mahalakshmi, played by Rakul Preeth Singh.
The second half is a big drag except the fights and dances of the hero. It is a mixture of interspersed comedy, fights and songs which were more like fillers than to do anything with the weak storyline. The other actors who helped the film in addition to hero Allu Arjun are Annapurnamma, Jayaprakash Reddy and Vidyullekha Raman( Sambar comedy).
This is one film in which the hero does well but the film itself doesn't. It is akin to a cricket match in which Kohli scores a century but India loses. In this case Allu Arjun aka Bunny has scored a century. Overall I would give *** to this movie.
