Movie Review - Satamaanambhavati

Image
First things first. This is one of the finest and neat movies that Tollywood has brought out in the last few years. Producer Dil Raju and Director Satish Vegesna deserve all appreciation for bringing out such a wonderful movie. The screenplay is extraordinary.  The story and the plot set in the green and beautiful village backdrop are a visual treat to the audience. Cinematographer Sameer Reddy has done a fabulous job in showcasing the beauty of villages in Godavari districts.  The story is about one Raghavaraju (played by Prakash Raj) and his family. His three children, two sons and a daughter, settle down in three different countries and become so embroiled in their lives that they do not find time to visit their aged parents or home in Atreyapuram in spite of repeated pleas by them. Th eir mother Janakamma (played by Jayasudha) threatens to abandon her husband and go to her children if he did not make them to come home this time during Sankranthi. So Raghavaraju makes a plot and

Movie Review - Gautamiputra Satakarni

Firstly Krish should be appreciated for taking up the tough task of telling the world about Satakarni, the Satavahana ruler. It is not easy to condense a 24 years history into a 135 minutes film. The writer-cum-director's choice of Balakrishna is very apt for the title of this film as only he can do justice to such characters. Krish who is known to choose his artistes well doesn't seem to have been successful in selection of other artistes for the characters. Hema Malini as Gautami and Shriya Saran as Vashishti could not carry the augustness of the characters they represented. Even the characters played by Tanikella Bharani, Sudhakar, Siva Krishna paled in the way they played their roles as messengers to Nahapana(played by Kabir Bedi) and Kalahasteeswara( played by Shiva Rajkumar). Farrah Karimee as Athena is stunning and shined in her role though it was brief.  Coming to the film, it is Bala Krishna who did the tough job of carrying the story impressively till the end as h

Movie Review - Khaidi No.150

This 150th movie of Megastar Chiranjeevi who was away from films for the last 9 1/2 years is a complete mass-cum-class entertainer. Chiranjeevi has proved that he loves movies more than anything else as he looks so young and energetic in the characters he played. One can easily see the hard work he would have put to fit in the roles to entertain his fans. It didn't feel he had such a long gap with the screen. In fact he looked as if he was in his 130th film.  The film has all the Ingredients that a moviegoer(not just fans) would want - comedy, action, sentiment, dances, music, songs, fights( a bit overdone as is usual in most movies) etc. Starting with the item song 'Rathaalu..', all songs are choreographed well with Chiranjeevi performing the dances with ease and elegance. Mega fans could get to see the Ram Charan too shaking his leg along with Chiru in the song 'Ammadu ..cheyddham kummudu'. The comedy scenes mostly involving Chiranjeevi (Kathi Sreenu), Brahmanad

Of News, Newspapers and Other Media

This week has witnessed a major media house shutting down in one stroke six of its editions at Bhopal, Indore, Ranchi, Kanpur, Allahabad and Varanasi. It is disheartening to think of the staff losing their jobs due to this move. While this doesn't come as a surprise given the scenario of news consumption in the country, it is time to ponder for all media companies with few or no exceptions. The Newspapers/media are supposed to be the voices of the public. But are they these days? Somewhere down the line media seems to have forgotten the reason for their existence - a reader or a viewer. In a mad race to chase numbers in the print and TRPs in the electronic segment for augmenting advertising revenue, the common man is completely forgotten. His problems have been relegated to inner pages and money spinners have taken over front pages and prime time slots. Advertisers, influential political class and cinema stars have occupied their mind space(read page space and time slots)resul

Movie Review - Dangal

(Reproduced from my FB post dated 24th Dec 2016) For a change I would like to first give my rating for this biopic and then write the review - It is a ***** movie and here is why: Right from the word go, this 161 minutes movie has value packed in every minute. The movie is about Mahavir Singh Phogat whose role is depicted by Aamir Khan in the most realistic manner. The dialogues which are mostly in Haryanvi accent added great flavour to the screenplay. The title song is good. The audience are in splits during the first half of the movie in which Mahavir who dreams of winning a gold medal for India in international wrestling by having a son, fails and ends up having four girl children instead. The 'chora' and 'chori' episodes amuse the audience to the hilt. The needlessly apologetic wife's role is played very neatly by Sakshi Tanwar.  One day Mahavir realises that his two elder daughters Geeta( Zaira Wasim) and Babita (Suhani Bhatnagar) are far superior to boys
