Movie Review - Gopala Gopala(Telugu)

Image
When a movie has content and the Director has confidence, it doesn't matter whether the movie gets released on a Friday or a Saturday, that is what this remake of OMG (Hindi) in Telugu proved today. It is a very difficult task for a Director when he has to direct a remake. Not all directors will be as lucky as a Gabbar Singh (remake of Salman Khan's Dabbang with Pawan Kalyan in the lead) director Harish Shankar. That is because the audience already have expectations and the first thing they do is compare. Coming to Gopala Gopala, I would say that Director Kishore Kumar Pardasani has done a wonderful job. The 153 minutes movie felt as if it was over very soon. So good was the screenplay. The first half of the movie is for 63 minutes and the second half is 90 minutes for obvious reason and that being as there would be both Gopals completely in the second half.  It is 'victory' Venkatesh show all the way and he played the role of Kanneganti Gopal Rao's with much eas

Movies – Freedom of Speech and Democracy

This is in response to 'Protests are Symptoms of a disease' column that appeared in SUNDAY Times Of India today. Too much is being talked about these days about 'democracy' and 'freedom of speech'. When someone says that he has freedom of speech and expression, he must remember that others too have the same measure of such freedom. Freedom doesn't mean being irresponsible and speaking what comes to one's mind. It has certain restrictions and regulations. Say for example, can Vishal Bharadwaj or Rajkumar Hirani walk freely into 7,Race Course Road or a movie theater? They need permissions at one place and tickets at another place. Freedom of Speech means showing restraint and speaking that which doesn't hurt anyone, as all are equal as per the Constitution. Just as Mahatma Gandhi is regarded as the Father of the Nation, God b

(Reproduced here  from my FB account where I first wrote this on 24th December 2014) I know this review is coming after almost a week of the release. Aamir Khan's performance is simply superb and he lived in the alien role throughout the 153 minutes film. He deserves an Oscar for the same. Coming to the story, it has shades of four other movie stories - Firstly, Telugu movie Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari (in which Sridevi and Chiranjeevi played the lead roles. There she loses her ring and cannot get back to Indralok unless she gets it back), secondly OMG , thirdly Aliens and fourthly Avatar (transmission through mind reading - that is how PK learns Bhojpuri in 6 hours from a prostitute). The film wonderfully captured the age-old thirst of man to find God and how in the process, the middle men in the form of godmen, take them for a ride. The film also showcased the Upanishadic concept that man should go beyond just outward symbols and forms to actually realize God. Ea
