Movie Review - Dictator (Telugu)
Dubbed
as the 99th film for Balakrishna, it appears that he is somehow
bent upon completing 100 films.
Directed
by Sriwaas, this is another high decibel, punch-dialogue driven film of
Balakrishna. The story felt like a never ending saga with the hero delivering
all dialogues in the same tone and diction irrespective of the scenes. That is
one of the biggest drawbacks in the film. The story of the film feels like a
mixed vegetable curry with the ‘vegetables’ being the movies Rajinikanth’s
Basha, Surya’s Ghajini and Mahesh’s Dookudu.
The
story is about how India’s biggest business man fights against the organized crime
in which businessmen are threatened by mafia that demanded protection money. Except
for a few comedy scenes created around the characters played Hema( as Hema
Patnaik) and Prithvi( as Mahesh Patro), the first half has nothing much to
boast about. In one of the scenes, Balakrishna delivers a long dialogue
highlighting the ‘greatness’ of movie actors and how they influenced the world
around. It felt like an unwanted insertion more than a real requirement for the
character.
During
the break, the screen reads “Dictator Steps in” and then start real troubles
for the audience. The hero single handedly eliminates enemies wherever they are
by delivering as many punch dialogues as bullets. Two of them go like this: “parvathaani
yekkalanuko parvaledu, yettalanukoku chacchhipothavu”, “voicelo volume penchaku,
lifelo vaccum perigipoddee”. Age is showing on Balakrishna as is evident from
his dances and walk in certain scenes.
Music
by S.S.Thaman is so-so and after a long time, Mumaith Khan makes an appearance in
an item song along with Shraddha Das. There are many actors in the film who
fail to make any impact as the storyline is too weak to hold audience interest.
If you remember Rati Agnihotri, you get to see her as Mahima Rai.
I
would give a ** for this film.
