Movie Review – Yevade Subramanyam(Telugu)

This movie
will definitely rank as one of the finest movies produced in Tollywood in the recent past. The theme of the movie revolves around questions like “Who Am I?” and “What Am I doing?”, that every person might have at least once in their lifetime.
Subramanyam, played by Nani, works as an Investment Banker and is driven by ambition, status and money. A product of IIM-A, his vision and mission in life is to make it big in life. He is so much engrossed and hooked on to his goal that he forgets the present moment and the beauty of life. At a time when he was about to realize his dream by getting engaged to industrialist and also his boss Pasupathi’s (played by Nazar) daughter Ria(played by Ritu Verma), an unexpected entry happens in the name and form of his childhood friend Rishi( played by Vijay Devarakonda, a new find for Tollywood). Vijay played his role very well though there was a bit of overdose on two occasions owing more to directorial issues. Rishi, the character, lives in the present and has the heart to appreciate every moment of life. A sensitive personality who does what he likes, his only goal in life is to go to Dudh Kashi in the Himalayas along with Subbu. They are met in a pub by Anandi, the heroine (played by another debutante Malavika Nair) who becomes their friend and shares the same thoughts towards life as that of Rishi. Malavika did her bit well and reminds the audience of erstwhile actress Shobana in certain scenes.
Why Rishi wanted to go to Dudh Kashi and whether or not he made it must be known only by seeing the movie in a movie hall.
The conversations between Ramaiah(played by Krishnam Raju), whose company Subbu tries to take over, are worth their weight in gold. It is nice to see Pratap Pothan in a Telugu film after several years. Sowcar Janaki also makes her presence felt though she was hardly in one scene.
The screen play and direction by Nag Ashwin is extraordinary. The series of events he showed in the second half of the film to depict the transformation of Subbu and the pure love that builds between Subbu and Anandi are worth a big mention. The dialogues of every actor connect instantly with the audience. The encounter of Subbu with Robert and their conversations are pictured well. Though there are no comedy actors in the film, the director has been highly successful in creating comedy using the hero himself and Nani did a fantastic job with ease. There is an element of naturalness with which Nani carries himself on the screen.
There are no usual fights and love songs that you would normally find in a Telugu movie. The songs written by Ananta Sriram and Ramajogayya Sastry are thought provoking and in complete tune with the films story line. Music by Radhan is in sync with the film and added to positive experience of the film.

Overall, the film is a must watch for all including those who do not know Telugu language. Appreciate producer Priyanka Dutt for producing such a wonderful message oriented movie and debutant Nag Ashwin for presenting it on the screen in an enjoyable manner. I wish such tribe grows in Tollywood and Indian cinema.
