Movie Review - Size Zero (Telugu)

But for Anushka Shetty in the lead, I would not have dared to venture into the hall screening this movie and she did not disappoint is what I would say.
Most of us tend to remember people who are either too lanky or too plump, be they kids or grown-ups. They also become objects of comedy be it at the school, college or elsewhere. This 131 minutes movie is about giving a morale boost to all such people especially the ones who are obese with a also a message for others that beauty lies not sizes and shapes but at the core of the heart. Produced by Potluri V Prasad( who happens to be my junior by one year at school) and directed by Prakash Kovelamudi is worth watching if you fall in the obese category and also a fan of Anushka.
The first half of the movie deals with how Anushka as Sweety alias Soundarya grows up constantly checking her weight at the flashy weighing machines that we normally find in railway and bus stations not necessarily for the purpose of weight but for the message that comes at the back of the weight card that the machine gave out. Even as a kid she was weighing 30 kgs. Ravu Ramesh plays as her dad and Urvashi as her mother Rajeshwari. Urvashi was at her best displaying the agony of a mother of an obese daughter with the sole aim of getting her married but always failing in the process due to Sweety's size. Anushka as Sweety has done a wonderful job, ably supported by Urvashi and Arya( as Abhi), she carried the whole film till its end. Anushka has proved that she can do any role with ease. The industry must be happy to have a talent and beauty like Anushka. She has portrayed the feelings and expressions in an impressive and touchy manner.
The other actors Sonal Chauhan as Simran, Prakash Raj as Size Zero Satyanand, Brahmanandam as Swamiji, Ali as Bobby - The Trainer, Bharat as Yahoo - the brother of Sweety, Posani as Nijam Niranjan have done their bit in keeping the audience engaged. It is nice to see Gollapudi Maruthi Rao after a long time on the screen as Sweety's grandpa.
The dialogues are well written and delivered well by the cast on the screen, otherwise, the movie would have felt as a drag. The second half of the movie feels like a mixed-vegetable curry not cooked tastily but for the cameo appearances of a few actors like Nagarjuna, Rana, Hansika et al. The campaign against Size Zero Satynanand looked too unrealistic to be enjoyed. The comedy and dialogues around Clean India and cleaning the toilets was hilarious. The music and background score by Keeravani is highly appreciable. You could also see Keeravani on the screen for a few seconds in one shot. The lyrics are meaningful.
Overall the movie is clean with a clear message that daughters, whether they are obese or skinny, are not a burden. That people should not get carried away by the claims of weight reduction by beauty clinics. That ads and films mislead people by always showing slim women as beautiful. That obese persons while trying to keep themselves fit must try and live a normal life accepting themselves as they are. That beauty contests are not an end in itself.
As I said, watch this movie if you are a fan of Anushka. I would give a 3*** for this movie.
