Separation of Telangana - Why Blame Now?
I am against the
division of AP that is taking place currently and is now almost a reality with
Lok Sabha passing the bill yesterday. Like any other Andhraite, I too would
blame Congress and BJP for the separation of Telangana, but a look at
the happenings in AP right from 1950s would place the blame squarely on the
rulers of AP especially in the last two decades.
Let us take a quick bite
of the past:
1.
Everybody knows that
Telangana agitation is not a recent phenomenon and K Chandrasekhara Rao and Telangana Rashtra Samithi do not have
proprietary rights on the same.
2.
A look at the history
will tell us that Telangana was part of the erstwhile Hyderabad state with 9
Telugu speaking districts of Telangana, 4 Kannada districts in Gulbarga
division and 4 Marathi speaking districts in Aurangabad division.
3.
Ranga Reddy District was
carved out of Hyderbad distirct in 1978.
4. Telugu speaking people were spread in 22 districts and Andhra state(Telangana not included) was formed with Kurnool as its capital in 1953.
4. Telugu speaking people were spread in 22 districts and Andhra state(Telangana not included) was formed with Kurnool as its capital in 1953.
5.
The agreement to merge
Telangana with Andhra was incidentally reached on 20th February 1956. (KCR was born on 17th February 1954)
6.
On 1st November 1956,
Andhra Pradesh was formed by merging Telangana with Andhra state. This happened
due to lobbying from Andhra congress leaders and pressure from central
leadership of Congress though some of the Telangana leaders at that time were
against the merger.
7.
Telangana agitation
arose in 1969 as students felt betrayed.
8.
When late N T Rama Rao floated
Telugu Desam Party, KCR contested on TDP ticket for the Legislative Assembly but lost the
election. He was however successfully elected from Siddipet constituency in
1985, 1989, 1994 and 1999.
9.
He floated TRS in April
2001 with the single-point agenda of creating Telangana state with Hyderabad as
its capital.
10.
He was elected as MP
from Karimnagar LS constituency in 2004 and from Mahbubnagar LS constituency in
2009.
Now, a few questions to
our AP 'leaders' and 'rulers':
1.
They knew that Telangana
is a perennial problem subject since 1969, then why did they develop ONLY
Hyderabad and ignore other parts of AP?
2.
Was Chandrababu Naidu in
anyway responsible(after he usurped power from late NTR) for KCR going out of
TDP and floating TRS?
3.
CBN keeps repeating that
he was responsible for the tremendous growth of software in Hyderabad, why was
he not able create a similar scenario in one or two more cities of AP? (Look at
what Maharashtra and Karnataka have done on this subject)
4.
Since 2004, Congress has
been in power in AP, what steps did they take to see that there was all round
development in AP? Even if they had developed two or three coastal cities like
Kakinada, Ongole, Nellore or Rayalaseema cities like Kurnool, Anantapur or
Cuddapah, Seemandhra would have been better placed today. Why did they not do
it? What prevented Congress government from doing so?
5.
In the same way,
developing other Telangana towns like Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and
Nalgonda would have assuaged the feelings of Telangana people weakening TRS. Why were no attempts made in this direction?
There are so many other
questions but the answer to all of them will be the same. They had put all
their eggs( their own businesses and ill-gotten wealth) in one
basket(Hyderabad) and only they know which other places. Their respective
constituencies were only looked upon as vote banks and nothing else. Most of
the time was spent in Hyderabad/New Delhi with least interest in developing the
state or their constituencies.
We are witnessing the
result of their lackadaisical attitude which is separation of Telangana from
AP. So what is the point now in blaming individuals or parties? While Telangana
movement was in full swing, Seemandhra people have not demanded results and
growth from their elected representatives and are paying a heavy price today for the
same.
At least now, wake up!
Please!!!
