A letter to Gandhiji on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi

AN INDIAN'S PERSONAL LETTER TO GANDHIJI.
Dear Gandhiji
Pranaams! Hope you are doing well and not troubling any British wherever you are. They have physically quit India, thanks to you and your team, but continue to rule the mindset of our rulers.
Here are a few things that are happening in post-independence India:
1.You are the Father of the nation and your birthday is celebrated reverently every year and is a holiday for all. No need to work on this day. Thank you for the same.
2.All our 'great' rulers offer their prayers to you at Raj Ghat/elsewhere and try to wash their political sins by uttering your name.
3.Your image is printed on every Indian currency note but unfortunately the notes end up in the pockets/Swiss bank accounts/lockers of the corrupt and do not reach the needy.
4.Your statue/photo is in every state Assembly and Parliament but these halls are mostly used for trading allegations instead of discussing the peoples' problems/issues.
5.There is not a city / town/village without your statue at road junctions but people have to live with bad roads and traffic problems. You are left to watch helplessly though you have a stick in your hand.
6.Almost all government offices have your photo hanging on the walls but most offices are filled with the 'sweet' smell (for some people working here) of corruption.
7.You believed in the concept of 'simple living and high thinking'. Your so called followers believe in 'high living and simple thinking'. Some don't even think at all.
8.There is prohibition in your birth state but liquor flows freely and fills the coffers in the rest of India. Many villages which you wanted to flourish stink of caste based politics and liquor ruining many lives.
9.You preached and followed Ahimsa but only Himsa is the path for getting elected and ruling over the helpless Indians. Cow slaughter is unabated.
10.You said real independence is only when a woman is able to walk freely even at midnight but our women are raped, harrassed and stalked every minute of the day, forget about midnights.
Even if you came back to save us, you will be painted as corrupt by the present lot of acerbic political tongues and will soon be too depressed. So please remain to live in the hearts of several Indians and restrict yourself to the statues and photos. The law will take its own course in any case.
Yours truly
Krishna Kiran
An ordinary Indian
