Movie Review - Brahmotsavam (Telugu)

This 156 minutes movie is sure to test audience patience levels as they are left yawning through out the duration of the movie. The movie directed by Sreekanth Addala opens with a plot that is confusing to say the least. A small girl sighing to Mahesh to marry her is in too bad a taste. Though the goal of the movie is appreciable, the screenplay is too lousy and irritating. It felt more like a photo session for the starry looking Mahesh Babu than a motion picture.
The conversations between Mahesh and Kajal are meaningless and make the audience swirl in their seats and make them restless. There are so many big time actors in the movie but one gets to feel that several crows have gathered at one place making horrible and unbearable noise. Director Srikanth may be sentimental about Rohini Hattangadi who also acted in SVSC which did reasonably well at the box office and so she finds a character in this film too. There were too many group dances and songs, probably to justify the title of the movie but they were too unnatural and boisterous. The plots seems to have changed to fast and gives a feel of cut and paste. None of the conversations between the characters were neither enjoyable nor made any sense. The scenes showing Kalyanam of Lord with the bride's and bridegroom's sides engaging in debate were too unbearable.
The lyrics are good but the music is so-so.
The second half of the film is totally meaningless with the hero travelling from one place to another in search of his roots. He travels with Samantha from Nagpur to Lucknow to Haridwar to Varanasi to Solapur to Bangalore with an objective that is hard to digest. The scenes at each of these places feel more like individual stage plays. The audience have a smile only in a few scenes involving Vennela Kishore who played the role of Lilly.
This movie will go down in the career of Mahesh Babu as one of the worst possible though the name sounds great. Only the producers and the director should know as to why the movie is named a Brahmotsavam as there is nothing of that sort in the story.
The audience walk out of the halls banging their heads. The movie can be aptly renamed as Talanoppotsavam( the festival of headaches) as it causes bad and unbearable headaches for the audience.
Overall I would give a ** for this movie.
