Why security for leaders with criminal records?

By refusing to take Z+ security cover (as he did last time), ‪Arvind Kejriwal is setting a new direction for governments in India. It would be worthwhile to know how much of the taxpayers' money is spent by our‪ Central ‪government and various ‪state governments on security for our ‪Ministers,‪‎ MPs, ‪‎MLAs and other so called 'VIPs'.

In the first place why do all of them need such security cover? Are they doing so much good to the people and protecting them from anti - social elements that their lives are in danger? When they are able to do without gunmen while not in power, why do they need A-Z type of cover after getting elected? It is high time that the expenditure on such unnecessary security is reduced drastically.

There has to be ‪Risk Audit for each of the elected representatives and security provided according to actual threat perception rather than allotting gunmen to every TD and H at the cost of public money. There are several leaders who misuse such cover and also view it as a big status to have government provided security.

If we looked at the assets declared by most of them in their affidavits in the recent elections, I am sure most of them can afford to have their own security, if required. Every rupee of the Indian taxpayers' money must be utilized only for the safety and security of our women and children and not for undeserving 'leaders'.
