Countries Of The World, Unite! Rage A War,No more Peshawars
Yesterday
16 December 2014 marks as one of the worst and darkest days in the history of
mankind with nine Talibans of a Taliban group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)
killing 133 children and 10 school staff at Army Public School and Degree
College in Peshawar, Pakistan in one of the most gruesome manner that history
has ever seen. It is akin to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in British India on
13th April 1919.
The
killing drew worldwide condemnation and leaders of all countries condemned the
mindless and senseless killing of innocent children in one voice.
Just
the other day, Man Haron Monis, a self-proclaimed representative of Islamic
State, took almost 20 people hostage inside the Lindt Café in Martin Place in
Sydney, Australia. Two of the hostages lost their lives in the ensuing
operation to free them.
It
was nine men in Peshawar and one man in Sydney who have shocked the entire
world population of almost 7 billion. It is a handful against many. Terrorism
has always been raising its ugly head and causing loss of lives and shaking the
very foundation of peace. When attacks of the above nature happen, it is not
just about that country where the attack occurs but about the whole humanity
and all countries. What these mindless terrorists are throwing at us is not a
challenge just for one country but for all the countries in Toto.
As
we are going forward, the mindlessness and cruelty is only increasing in
proportion and showing no signs of diminishing. At this juncture, it is
important that all the countries of the world unite and fight collectively
against the terror outfits across the globe. This requires strong leadership,
apolitical commitment, compassion and value for human life irrespective of
which country people belonged to.
There is a Sanskrit
phrase in Mahopanishad that reads ‘vasudhaiva kutumbakam’ which literally means
‘the world is one family’.
Time has come for countries to seriously understand and live by this phrase. Any
country big or small can no longer live on its own by ignoring others’ problems
because unrest and terrorism in one country has its own repercussions on
others. The people and leaders of every country must start thinking and acting
in such a way that one country’s happiness and prosperity is directly dependent
on the other, whichever part of the globe the other country is located.
Though
the efforts of UN Security Council and the General Assembly are commendable in
countering terrorism, it appears that there is something more to be done by
countries of the world. A separate Common
Anti-Terror Squad (CATS) is to be created as part of CTITF (Counter-Terrorism
Implementation Task Force) of the UN. CATS should be a separate army of
highly trained personnel from various countries working as one team and located
at various strategic locations in different terror prone areas of the world.
Based on the intelligence that CATS would have, its army will work on
eliminating the terror outfits and take the fight to the doorstep of terrorists
even before they plan to attack civilians and other soft targets. CATS will be
guided by a common anti-terrorism policy and not by any country’s individual
policy on anti-terrorism. Countries
spending huge amounts on Defense should instead divert some of those funds to
CATS because the problem today is not from other countries but from the
terrorist groups.
The old saying
“Offence is the best form of defense” absolutely fits with the CATS suggestion
made above. The
world can no longer afford to have a monster of terror waiting, planning and
executing ideas to kill innocents for no fault of theirs. Rather than waiting
for something to happen and being always on tenterhooks, it is better for countries
of the world to unite in a stronger way and eliminate these terror outfits and
those working for them in a ruthless manner. The best place for terrorists is
hell and CATS should work towards sending them there in droves.
People
across the globe need to be reassured that they are not in danger from
terrorism. And that is possible only with great united efforts by all
countries.
Countries
of the world unite! Rage a war on terrorism and terrorists! No more Peshawars
please!
